ACS Response to Current Events

SINCE THE DEATH OF GEORGE FLOYD, WE HAVE LISTENED, LEARNED, AND ARE REFLECTING ON THE CULTURAL SITUATION ACROSS THE COUNTRY AS WELL AS SOME FEEDBACK PEOPLE HAVE SHARED ABOUT THEIR EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE AT ACS. THAT SAID, WE CANNOT AND WILL NOT PRETEND TO UNDERSTAND THE PAIN GEORGE FLOYD’S FAMILY IS EXPERIENCING OR THE PAIN RESONATING WITH SO MANY IN THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY. AS AN ORGANIZATION WE CONDEMN ALL ACTS OF RACISM. THE CHRISTIAN WORLDVIEW EXPLAINS WHY BLACKS AND WHITES AND PEOPLE OF EVERY RACE ARE OF EQUAL VALUE. GENESIS 1:27 TEACHES THAT “GOD CREATED MAN IN HIS OWN IMAGE, IN THE IMAGE OF GOD HE CREATED HIM; MALE AND FEMALE HE CREATED THEM.” EVERY HUMAN BEING IS MADE IN THE IMAGE OF GOD. IT IS INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT BEING MADE IN GOD’S IMAGE IS NOT A VARYING MEASURE. A PERSON CANNOT HAVE MORE OF OR LESS OF GOD’S IMAGE. YOU EITHER HAVE IT OR YOU DON’T. THAT’S ONE THING EVERY PERSON ON EARTH SHARES EQUALLY, AND THAT’S WHAT MAKES EVERY PERSON EQUALLY VALUABLE.AS WE AT ACS INTROSPECTIVELY EXAMINE OUR OWN ORGANIZATION WE WANT TO RESPOND WITH COMPASSION AND UNDERSTANDING. WE WANT TO BE PARTOF THE SOLUTION, NOT PART OF THE PROBLEM. WE UNDERSTAND THAT SOME STUDENTS EXPERIENCED INSENSITIVITY FROM OTHER STUDENTS AND EVEN SOME STAFF MEMBERS IN THE PAST. THIS EXPERIENCE IS NOT CONSISTENT WITH OUR WORLDVIEW OR MISSION AND IF YOU EXPERIENCED THIS INSENSITIVITY WE APOLOGIZE AND ASK FOR YOUR FORGIVENESS.WE WANT THE PUBLIC TO KNOW IN ADDITION TO A POLICY OF NON-DISCRIMINATION WE ARE EXPANDING OUR TRAINING FOR BOTH STAFF AND STUDENTS ON CULTURAL SENSITIVITY. IF WE WANT TO BE A LIGHT IN THIS DARK AREA, WE MUST BE PROACTIVE IN PROMOTING CONVERSATIONS THAT LEAD TO REAL, POSITIVE CHANGE.
